Romans 12:1-2

1–2 minutes

For me, this speaks volumes on how we should live our day-to-day lives here on earth.

What does it mean to you when you hear in Romans 12:1-2?

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

To me, I hear in verse 1 that I should accept the hand the Lord is offering me “in view of God’s mercy” and allow Him to be a part of every aspect of my life. When I wake up in the morning, my thoughts should be to get in the right state of mind. Prayerfully seek His guidance for me for today, because yesterday is already gone and I can’t assume that what He had for me then is the same now. I should be careful to give Him glory and honor through the day, not just in the big stuff but in the small stuff too.

In verse 2, I am reminded that the world is going to consistently challenge and attempt to warp my mind to believe the temptations of my flesh. If I am to anticipate any blessings, mercy or Grace from God, I better believe my mind should be after the things that He has planned for me and not the things the world has set before me. If I am not in prayer, in the Bible, in a LOVE RELATIONSHIP with my Lord and Savior, then I am not in any position to “test and approve what God’s will is”. If we don’t understand or know how to LOVE GOD, then we can’t begin to know how to love ourselves and others for our true worth in life as children of God, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

For me it’s a daily choice. Who is my god? Whom do I worship Jesus or me. Am I going to willingly offer my entire life to Him or not. Am I going to crawl up on that altar and offer my entire self to God knowing it will be tough? Knowing I have a propensity for world and sin.
The short answer yes! Sacrifice in its very nature is losing myself and clinging to Jesus. None of which is possible without verse two. 🙂 Mahalo!

For me this Romans 12:2 is a biggie. For months the Lord has been telling me, “Change your thinking, change your life, Amy.”

This is so easy for me to do when things are going good but when things are not so hot and I am attacked by Satan and his lies it is so very hard for me to remember to change my thinking or to get a new perspective.

Verse 2 in the New Living Translation puts it this way, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think…” What I realized is that, “do not be conformed to the ways of this world,” didn’t just mean that I should not be doing the things that this world does but that I also should not think, act, or react the way the world does to things. This includes the bad circumstances I may experience, including when someone has hurt me. God wants to not just make me a new person, he wants to completely transform me into his image and that has to start with the way I think about EVERYTHING. If I stop and get HIS perspective on the situation, I will find growth, understanding, peace, love, freedom and a “renewing the mind.”
Thank you for sharing, looking forward to more.
