Why is it so hard for us to truly worship God? (Pt 1)

2–3 minutes

It’s saddening to know that the Lord most likely feels the same way now with our present society, like he did back in the time of Jeremiah. God spoke to Jeremiah during the reign of three different kings of Judah up until the exile of Jeruselum.

Jeremiah 5:20-25
20 “Announce this to the descendants of Jacob
   and proclaim it in Judah: 21 Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear: 22 Should you not fear me?” declares the LORD. “Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;
   they may roar, but they cannot cross it. 23 But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away. 24 They do not say to themselves, ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.’ 25 Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprived you of good.

What makes us so stubborn? That is the biggest question, why are we ignorant to the awesome power of God? We take so much for granted each and every day! God spoke the shoreline into existence so that we could inhabit dry land. He gave us the seasons, so that we might enjoy the awesome contrast of His artistic design, and so that we may enjoy a light season of labor after a heavy one.

He spoke the very breath of life that allowed you to wake up this morning! Were you thankful, or did you wake up with a chip on your shoulder looking dreadingly at the day ahead of you? In your daily activities, are you doing the things that glorify Him, or the things that glorify how you feel at that moment regardless of whether you’d feel guilty about it later or not?

The only thing God asks for is for us to hear Him, acknowledge Him, obey Him, and worship Him!

Do you study your bible each and every day? I don’t mean to open the bible and simply read it, are you understanding what is being said to you? Do you confirm something in your mind you believe to be from the Holy Spirit in scripture? This is what I believe it means to hear Him.

Do you thank Him for that breath of life, for hearing your childrens laughter (or even their bickering), the warmth of the sun, the birds, the bite you got to eat, etc? Do you consider all your major decisions by coming to Him prayerfully with all your heart? This is what I believe it means to acknowledge Him.

The list goes on for these first two areas, and I believe I should focus more on the last two in a seperate study as to not detract any due attention that they deserve. Obeying and worshipping the Lord are often the most difficult and misunderstood concepts for many of us as Christians, and I wouldn’t want to mislead anyone who has not yet decided if they are a believer or not.

    It is wonderful to see you think of these things! It is MY belief that the only thing the Lord wants from us is that we love him and obey his commands but this is what any parent would expect from the children that they love. I know as a parent that is the only thing I want my children to do, that they love me and obey my rules, that is it!!!

    I agree with you in that we should go to the Lord in prayer regarding all major decisions in our lives but the Lord pointed something out to me last year as my plane was taking off and headed back East. Their was a lady sitting next to me who was very anxious about the flight and I thought to myself, “Why is she so afraid, there’s nothing to this.” I realized at that moment that I wasn’t afraid because I knew that the Lord had a purpose for me to fulfill and that purpose had yet to completed. I knew I was safe and the Lord would let nothing harm me and that’s when it happened… The Lord so gently asked me, “Amy, you trust me with your life but why don’t you trust me with the little things? I want you to trust me in everything and with everything no matter how large or small.” I think that’s where most of us hit a brick wall. We trust him with the big things but when it comes to the little things in our life, we somehow think he cannot or will not take care of it for us so we want to do it ourselves.

    Great topics to get us thinking! Thank you for being obedient to Christ!!!
